“The Expendables 3” may have recruited a great villain.

According to Showbiz 411’s sources, the action hero team may have to face Mel Gibson. No official confirmation at this time, but the site’s sources described it as “serious.”

If Gibson is recruited, then he will join a very good company of new recruits, including Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich.

Back in April, Sylvester Stallone wanted Gibson to direct the third installment, but was turned down. “Red Hill” director Patrick Hughes took the helm instead, but maybe Gibson wanted to be involved after all.

Gibson will be seen in the upcoming “Machete Kills” as a crazed drug dealer villain in that film.
