Audiences everywhere are gearing up for Marvel Studios’ Black Widow this weekend. This is their first feature film since Avengers: Endgame. In the meantime, they have not left us empty-handed. They have served us WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. In one of those series, we were introduced to the new Captain America. Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, took over the mantle to the excitement of fans all over the world.

In Black Widow, we are going to meet Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian. He is played by the Stranger Things veteran David Harbour. In the film, he is considered the Russian super-soldier counterpart to Captain America. Also a kind of father figure to both Natasha and Yelena. During the film, he makes fun jabs at who he considers a rival and probably also a sort of idol if you think about it.

With the new Captain America and now Red Guardian both in the MCU, could we see them both on-screen together? During a recent press event for Black Widow, Harbour commented that he would like to work with Mackie in a future project to bring these two characters together.

“Who’d I like to team up with? Oh god none of them. I consider myself so extraordinary, so above all their mere, you know, pedestrian powers. I mean I don’t know if it’s a team-up, but I really love the Falcon character. I love Anthony Mackie just as an actor too.” Said Harbour

“Now that he’s wearing the Cap suit and everything and the amount of Complexity that Alexei has with Cap in general with whoever wears the suit. He hates that guy, and he hates who he represents.” Continued Harbour. “But also there was in the film some of the funniest stuff to me is where he’s like, he actually was a colleague of mine. We had a lot of respect for each other. I just think that dynamic would be really fun to see those guys.”

With the kind of light-hearted moments that Harbour brings to Red Guardian in Black Widow, I think that seeing his character with Captain America would be quite entertaining. I can already see Sam Wilson’s annoyance on his face. Let’s make it happen Disney!
