As the hype for Ghostbusters: Afterlife continues to rise, we’ve been given a new international trailer to watch. It gives us more clues to the story hitting theaters November 18th.
Most people will say they’ve seen the original Ghostbusters movie. Many will profess undying love (including myself) to the original idea of paranormal pest control gone awry with a healthy dose of clever comedy, a pinch of bathroom humor, and a touch of real horror. The second film has it’s issues, but if you saw it under the age of 12 or 13, you probably loved it. The cartoon is also a generational thing, although J. Michael Straczynski wrote many amazing episodes, but it’s clear that it influenced the second film and everything since. Well, with maybe the exception of 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer The Call. So, where does that leave the upcoming threequel?
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
The upcoming film looks to be steeped in nostalgia and the international trailer cements that fact. The studio almost ignored the original score and theme song during advertising, but that classic Ray Parker Jr. theme is finally teased throughout. However, when it does kicks in, it may rub some the wrong way. Much like 2016’s Fall Out Boy cover. From silly Mini-Pufts to a cool looking practical Terror Dog, the trailer should have been the first full trailer we saw.

I am concerned about whether or not we’re seeing an Egon Spengler (the late GREAT Harold Ramis) stand-in. Many fans are mad at Sony for not getting their shit together, nor could some of the actors, to get a third film made before he died. Using a stand-in, especially hiding their face, could be seen as disrespectful. However, it could be someone else trying to reach Egon.
