Hollywood tends to be all about heat. If you create something that does well in the film marketplace, you may very well have big studios knocking on your front door, and you could even have a Marvel movie in your future. The same goes for writers. Once you make a hit or two, more opportunities for non-spec work pops up, and such was the case with A Quiet Place writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.
MovieWeb had a chat with the two scribes, and on the heels of A Quiet Place, the duo revealed that they had spoken with Lucasfilm to have some open-canvas conversations. Here’s what Woods had to say.

“We went into Lucasfilm in the wake of A Quiet Place and they wanted to talk to us about Indiana Jones and Star Wars. And we’re like, ‘We wanna talk to you about, what is Star Wars before it was Star Wars?’ You guys have a responsibility to start a new franchise. That’s where our hearts have always been, just trying to create original ideas.
Basically, they’re not so interested in hopping onto existing franchises, which is admirable…but what exactly did they discuss? Here’s what Beck said:
“Without giving away too much… it was simply ruminating on if we did an Indiana Jones movie, what would we want to see in Indiana Jones? Or if we did a Star Wars movie, what’s that chapter of the whole universe that we would want to see? So it very much was an open canvas talk. It started going down the line a little bit but, again, as Bryan said, it’s just not our DNA. We would rather create what the next Indiana Jones could be.”
Clearly, with A Quiet Place, they are well on their way, and with more than enough big franchises underway, we can use some of that original spirit. What do you think of their mindset? Are you disappointed we likely won’t see the duo work on the next big superhero film or Disney tentpole flick? Sound off in the comments.
