Turns out we almost got some Ben Barnes in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Barnes who already appeared as Russo/Jigsaw in Punisher on Netflix was offered the role by Kari Skogland, director. The pair had worked together previously on Punisher. Barnes recently did a Live Instagram with Rotten Tomatoes and revealed Skogland had offered him a role in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (he doesn’t know which part for sure). However he had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with Shadow and Bone which releases this weekend on Netflix.
Here is what Barnes said on Instagram (via The Direct)
“And [Kari Skogland] actually messaged me saying she was doing [The Falcon and the Winter Soldier] and that there might be a character for me in it. And I was just about to do Shadow and Bones, so I didn’t even know what it might be.”
However Barnes did confirm that the role was not John Walker when fans asked further into Instagram chat. He said it may have been a role not in the current version of the show. There is certainly not an obvious role that you could see someone of Barnes caliber tackling in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Fans loved Barnes as Russo in Punisher. However that character was most assuredly killed in Season 2. So we can say with some certainty that this was not a plan to have Russo/Jigsaw turn up.
