Director Adam Robitel doesn’t see Escape Room: Tournament of Champions as a simple sequel for its surprise horror hit Escape Room. He envisions the film as victims running a gauntlet of traps and puzzles that’ll keep everyone on their seats from start to finish.
In this next installment, the two escape room survivors of Zoey Davis and Ben Miller are lured back to the devious world of killer rooms for entertainment purposes. This time around, they’ll get significant help with those who also survived the game previously before.
Here’s the official synopsis of the film:
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is the sequel to the box office hit psychological thriller that terrified audiences around the world. In this installment, six people unwittingly find themselves locked in another series of escape rooms, slowly uncovering what they have in common to survive and discovering they’ve all played the game before.
The cast includes Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Carlito Olivero, and Thomas Cocquerel.
Adam Robitel directed the movie from the screenplay written by Will Honley, Maria Melnick, and Daniel Tuch.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta talked with director Adam Robitel on the clever traps in these deadly rooms without leaving these victims taking a breather. Also, he hints on whether the Escape Room movies ever become a franchise.
Adam Robitel entered the horror genre world in 2014 with the found footage horror thriller The Taking of Deborah Logan. The following year, Paramount Studios hired him to do rewrites on Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. Then Blumhouse tapped his directing talents for the creep-fest franchise of Insidious: The Last Key, which became the biggest box office generator for any Insidious movie. In 2019, he started the chain of events with Escape Room that became a box office hit. His next project is back into the supernatural world of Insidious: The Dark Realm.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions hits theaters tomorrow, July 16.
