Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC was once a fine companion show to the MCU’s Infinity Saga. Beyond expanding Clark Gregg’s role as Agent Phil Coulson, the series introduced Marvel fans to a plethora of characters who grew in popularity over the course of seven seasons. Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson/Quake was no exception. That’s why it was baffling when Marvel left Daisy out of the critically panned Secret Invasion series on Disney+.
Recently, Bennet spoke out regarding her character’s exclusion from Secret Invasion during an appearance at DragonCon (per Culture Crave). She admits that Marvel does not consider the once-popular S.H.I.E.L.D. show as part of Kevin Feige’s MCU.
“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t considered canon, [but] I agree that I should’ve been in Secret Invasion. It probably would’ve been better.”

Much like the original ABC series, Daisy was part of the Secret Warriors group in the comics. Only she was recruited by Nick Fury to battle the Skrulls during the Secret Invasion storyline. Rumors suggested that Daisy would be reintroduced into the MCU after S.H.I.E.L.D. ended in 2020, with Marvel Studios absorbing the television unit of the brand. Bennet made clear during DragonCon that Marvel has not reached out to her for a potential return.
Secret Invasion struggled with audiences for many reasons. Aside from a convoluted finale and nonsensical twists, the series was basically a stripped-down version of the epic storyline from the comics, which involved multiple high-profile Marvel characters. It was the singular project that confirmed Marvel Studios’s issues with handling small-screen fare, suffering from the quantity over quality approach they were taking.
Bennet’s claim that S.H.I.E.L.D. is not part of the MCU goes against a comment made by Marvel Studios’ Head of TV, Brad Winderbaum. Last year, Winderbaum attempted to clarify the issue with ScreenRant by stating that S.H.I.E.L.D. was canon within the Multiverse Saga.

“I think that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a really great show, and there was a long time where some of the best reveals in that show were during the Winter Soldier era, where Hydra emerges and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ I remember that feeling, even knowing what was happening, just being a fan, [going] ‘It really is connected!’ I think that there is, in a crazy way, like you said, it does feel like it fits into The Multiverse Saga in an incredible way. I want to go down this road with you, you know I do, but we’re just gonna take a deep breath for a second. Just know that I love that cast, I love Clark Gregg and I love that show.”
