According to some recent Star Wars trade news Ahsoka Season 2 will film next year and a Skeleton Crew Season 2 is being explored. The information comes from an article by THR exploring the current state of Star Wars. Looking into the future we currently have only one Star Wars live-action TV series greenlit. That of course being Ahsoka Season 2. Skeleton Crew which hits this December was always envisioned as a standalone limited series initially. Lando remains in development and being re-written by star Donald Glover and his brother, but who knows when that could take the next step?
It does beg the question of what happens next for Star Wars on TV. I think the days of high budget shows are gone, so Star Wars needs to look ahead in different ways for the small screen.
Ahoska getting greenlit partly seems to come from the fact it wasn’t as high budget as other recent series. We do still have Andor Season 2 to look forward to, but don’t expect another of those anytime soon.
Here is what THR said about Ahsoka Season 2;
‘A second season was announced as in development in January, and sources say the new season will go into production next year.’
And Skeleton Crew;
‘The creators have strongly suggested the show will be another one-and-done limited series, but Lucasfilm is considering Skeleton Crew a series (unless its ratings decide otherwise).’

I have a feeling Skeleton Crew‘s ratings won’t be very high. Call me a pessimist, but that’s just how I feel the fanbase is on that show. Ergo, I do not actually expect to see a Season 2 of Skeleton Crew unless it’s an unexpected hit.
Disney’s current focus seems to be on getting Star Wars back to theaters where there’s money to be made. Whether the audience is still there? Well, that remains to be seen. Hence the decision probably to start with the popular characters leading The Mandalorian and Grogu. The real test for me will be the upcoming Rey Sequel.
At the same time Lucasfilm can’t just abandon Disney+. Therefore, they do need to devise more animated series and more budget controlled live-action stories. My advice, make big spectacle aimed more at younger Star Wars fans on animated shows. Aim the live-action as lower budget character development shows which will appeal more to adults.
