I’ve always been one of three anime fans out there who didn’t absolutely go nuts for the original Akira anime. I’ll agree that the animation quality is near-unparalleled even to this day, but in terms of the story, it seemed way to up its own ass for me to actually enjoy it. About halfway through when things started to get really crazy, it fell off for me into nonsense-land — a result of them working form an incomplete story.
So I went back one day and read the manga source material. And, holy crap, in spite of the similar start, the differences couldn’t be starker. I LOVED the manga and think that a full-on adaptation of the full material would make a much more enjoyable experience.

Between the new anime and the live-action film from Taika Waititi, it’s clear that an era of Akira is coming. What do you think of this? Are you happy that we’ll be getting an anime series that covers the whole of the story? Let us know your thoughts down below!
