All in one place here are the trailers and spots from yesterday’s big game. Including, Project Hail Mary, Disclosure Day, Supergirl and more, even a quite awful spot for The Mandalorian and Grogu. Not going to give you much in way of thoughts on each trailer. Just the trailer/spots and release information for most. Though I definitely will give my opinions on that Mando and Grogu spot. So why not just start there?
The Mandalorian and Grogu
The film is out this May and honestly I think Disney wants this film to bomb. Every trailer shown so far looks tonally all wrong. The grittiness of early Mando seasons replaced by the cartoonish nature of Mando Season 3.
Then we get this,
Honestly Disney, you’ve actively turned me off this film. I’m now planning on not seeing it in theatres. I think I’ll wait for Disney+, since this looks like a Disney+ level product. Great marketing folks, good process. Why is Mando and Grogu riding Santa’s sleigh pulled by Tauntauns in a Summer movie? It just beggars belief to me that the franchise that was created from the OT and features shows like Andor can also stop to this kiddy style so often. Must have been a lot of fans of that Star Wars Holiday Special I tell you that.
Disclosure Day
The next film from Steven Spielberg’s marketing so far has been on the mysterious side. I guess having his name attached commands a certain amount of attention on it’s own. Yet, I also ask myself when I see this latest spot, if this wasn’t Spielberg, would I have any interest? I think the answer is no, at this time. Spielberg is directing though, so I’m interested.
However, you decide for yourself. Disclosure Day hits theatres in June 12.
Scream 7
Horror movies always go on too far and too long. I think Scream 3 was the last one I paid any attention to. At this point we are at Jason Does Manhattan levels of stretching plausibility. But if you are all about this franchise, here is your next does of the Ghostface Killer. You don’t have to wait long either as Scream 7 drops on February 27.
Supergirl
This one dropped before the big game and I still like what I am seeing of Supergirl. Outside of Spider-Man: Brand New Day it’s the Summer movie I’m most looking forward to. This is due to marketing because I’m not that into Supergirl as a character. This films intrigues me though.
Supergirl hits theatres on June 26.
Project Hail Mary
Adapted from the book of the same name, this film stars soon to be leading a Star Wars movie Ryan Gosling. Check it out.
Project Hail Mary will be with us on March 20, so not long to wait. Honestly, I get the feeling (not read the book), this is one that’s going to have me in tears watching it. It’s got that vibe man.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth
This was a surprise drop from Netflix yesterday. The sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, focused on Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth and where he went next. Written by Tarantino, but directed by long time Pitt collaborator David Fincher, The Adventures of Cliff Booth will debut on Netflix and select theatres some time this year.
Minions & Monsters
I don’t know about you, but after four Despicable Me movies and three Minions movies I’m not getting all misty eyed for a new Minions franchise starter. But these films make money and you better be damned sure Hollywood will keep throwing these guys at you until you’re sick to the stomach of of them. That’s how this tends to work.
This generation’s Doorman (Wonder Man reference), I would not complain if I never have to watch neither one of these movies again. My daughter on the other hand, may have other ideas. I think I may be busy with something very important on July 1st when Minions & Monsters hits theatres.
If there’s anything I missed, then I didn’t come across it yet myself and therefore isn’t worth worrying about.
What do you think of these trailer/spots from yesterday. What are the movies that you’re looking forward to this Summer and which of these are you noping out on? Thoughts below.
