With the awareness from Orwell’s estate, the producers intentionally reimagined certain roles and character identities to broaden the film’s appeal to younger audiences, while preserving the core values and cautionary power of the original story.
Featuring the voices of Seth Rogen, Jim Parsons, Glenn Close, Woody Harrelson, Steve Buscemi, and Kieran Culkin, this fresh take on the classic story follows a group of animals who set out to build a better world, only to see their dream gradually shift as leadership and loyalty are tested. With visually striking animation and emotionally layered performances, the film introduces Orwell’s timeless tale to a new generation in a bold, cinematic way.

Andy Serkis explains, “We wanted to speak directly to an audience we recognize today. There was a fantastic, animated version of Animal Farm in 1954, but that was made for its time. This adaptation is about speaking in the common parlance and vernacular of now. That was reflected in the voice work — encouraging the cast to truly make the characters their own. We wanted it to feel contemporary and to genuinely connect with younger audiences by choosing a language they could relate to.”
While Orwell’s original characters are presented in new forms in this adaptation, the heroes retain the same defining qualities of honesty, hard work, and collaboration. At its heart, the story continues to ask the central question Orwell posed: why, after all these years, do humans keep making the same mistakes? Why is it that once someone becomes a leader, they stop listening to ideas and healthy debate, becoming consumed instead by self-preservation and survival?
