According to writer Michael Waldron, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would save seen a fight between the Young Avengers vs Kang. However, Waldron also explains in a recent Reddit Q&A that the YA victory would have actually been against a new, inexperienced Kang. Thus, not quite the accomplishment they thought it at first.
Waldron was writing the script alongside Jeff Loveness who wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However plans were scrapped and work began on replacement film Avengers: Doomsday, which Waldron has had a part in also.
“Jeff Loveness and I spent an afternoon pitching on the Young Avengers defeating a version of Kang and being so stoked about it… Only to discover that that particular Kang carried a little card that said to be patient with him, it was his first day as a Kang. And then they were so bummed. I think he was gonna be the lizard Kang from the end of Kang Dynasty [probably means Quantumania]? I don’t know. Anyway we had fun.”

Okay, so I guess we now know why Marvel scrapped this idea and effectively sacked Loveness, right? I mean, that sounds like a horrible idea to me. I’m not even going to get into that Young Avengers being thrown into this film was bad to begin with. Maybe they’d have ben established first, but still. However, having them beat an inexperienced Kang and he has a card that identifies this… What are you guys smoking over there?
This sounds like Secret Invasion level Marvel and not what I’m looking for in an Avengers movie. I’m one who thinks there’s a good Kang Avengers movie to be made, in the right hands. (Hint: dark Kang stories work really well in the comics.) This version though, clearly was not the kind of Kang movie I was hoping for.
What do you think of this scene from the now scrapped Avengers: The Kang Dynasty? Would you like to see Young Avengers vs Kang, only to find out it’s basically kid Kang? If not, I’m guessing, like me, you’re glad we never got to see this one? Thoughts below.
