Filmmaker Drew Goddard is still at the very beginning of his auteurial career (and yes, I’m pretty sure I made that word up). Sure, he may have been in the business for approaching 20 years now, but as of this writing, he only has one other film that has been both written and directed by him, and that’s The Cabin in the Woods, which he co-wrote with Joss Whedon.
This makes Bad Times at the El Royale that much more important. It’ll really give us an idea of what we can expect from the filmmaker. Do most of his skills just lie in adapting or writing stories for the big and small screen, or does his actually have skill with actors and behind the camera as well? Based on what we’ve seen so far from that first trailer, it seems like the answer is a resounding yes.
Now, if you still haven’t had enough of the film (and let’s be real, we haven’t had much), the studio has got you covered with a new batch of character posters that really capture the dark, yet goofy tone we felt in that trailer. Check them out below!
Below is the official synopsis for Bad Times at the El Royale:
“Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell. Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, Dakota Johnson and Cynthia Erivo lead an all-star cast in BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE.”
