A bit of Barside Buzz and a bit of news as Black Panther 3 gets rumored release date and Fantastic Four: First Steps has a big second week box office drop. Let’s start with the more official news, as per Deadline.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps had a good opening weekend. However, it suffered a big second week drop in box office domestically. That’s despite strong ratings and good word of mouth.
After opening to $117.6 million last week, the movie is expected to gross $40 million to $45 million over this past weekend. Using the lower figure, that’s a pretty steep 66% decline.
This indicates that the Marvel fans are still turning up opening weekend. However, the casual audience has lost interest in the MCU, even with good word of mouth. Or, like Thunderbolts* the Fantastic Four are just not big enough to get casuals into theatres. Superman currently looks set to make more than Fantastic Four, which would be a first since the popularity of the MCU rose.

The FF have never performed well at the box office, probably due to never having a good film. But non-comic book fans don’t know them outside those films, do they? Therefore, it’ll take time and continual good films to build an audience for Marvel’s first family.
All Marvel can do is continue to make good films and hope the audience comes back, or they at least make a profit.
Barside Buzz – Black Panther 3
In our rumor section of this article, Jeff Sneider, a reliable scooper says he knows when Black Panther 3 is scheduled to release. Sneider appeared as usual on this past week’s The Hot Mic podcast.
Sneider says,
“Black Panther 3, that’s February 2028. That’s going to start production at the top of 2027. And that will be in theaters February 2028.”
This does seem to make a lot of sense to be fair.
So what do you think of the Fantastic Four: First Steps drop off? What do you think of the rumors on the Black Panther 3 release date? Thoughts below.
