If I am being honest, it wasn’t until I saw this trailer that I learned about Body Brokers. The idea of “junkie hunters” looking for addicts with good insurance coverage to refer to recovery programs for a fee is a crazy thought. But it seems like there are those out there making a boatload of money by exploiting people’s unfortunate circumstances. This practice is explored in the new Vertical Entertainment film, Body Brokers. You can check out the trailer down below!
Body Brokers’ Synopsis
Utah and Opal are junkies living on the streets of rural Ohio until a seemingly chance encounter with the enigmatic Wood (Michael Kenneth Williams) brings them to Los Angeles for treatment. While Utah finds sobriety with the help of the treatment center shrink (Academy Award®-Winner Melissa Leo), he soon learns that rehab is not about helping people—it’s merely a cover scheme for a multibillion-dollar fraud operation, enlisting addicts to recruit other addicts. Seduced by the money, but troubled by the hypocrisy, Utah must decide between what will make him rich, and what will save Opal.

This film is written and directed by John Swab. It stars Frank Grillo, Melissa Leo, Jack Kilmer, Michael K. Williams, Jessica Rothe, and Alice Englert.
I was very intrigued by the synopsis and the trailer as I was unaware of this horrible practice. While illegal in many places there are some who still find different loopholes to continue doing this. Body Brokers will be a great film to get an inside look at the practice. That way we can all do our part if we have a struggling loved one that needs help. It looks like the film has a solid cast so I am excited to see this.
