While Joaquin Phoenix is definitely the focal point of Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker film, he isn’t the only heavy-hitter in the flick. As we all know, the legendary Robert De Niro is playing the role of talk show host Murray Franklin who will be in the one opposing Phoenix’s Joker, which should be quite the showdown indeed (you can check out the two seeing each other face-to-face on the source link below)!
Apparently not even a bomb scare could keep De Niro away from the role. According to Empire‘s interview, on De Niro’s first day of shooting, an explosive device was delivered to the Manhattan production office. Phillips reflected on the event:
“We had FBI guys showing up to search the set, and I thought, ‘oh god, what’s he gonna be like?’ And he comes in like it’s nothing, just ready to rock, knew his s**t. He’s amazing.”
Bomb Scare? No big deal for De Niro. He truly is the badass he usually portrays! De Niro is an amazing, seasoned actor who is known for playing strong, manipulative rolls (Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Goodfellas, The King of Comedy, …hey, even Meet The Parents, right Focker?) and it will be interesting to see him in this type of roll. Will he be the true villain of the film, or is it Arthur Fleck/ The Joker all the way?

Recent comments about Joker not being anything like the comics has created quite a stir, but also quite the interest. Phoenix and De Niro definitely have pull when it comes to the audience, but will it be enough for us die hard (and ultra critical) fans of the comics? Also, would you take a roll if a pipe bomb was sent your way…? Leave your thoughts in the usual spot, and thanks for reading!
