Never forget your Puerto Rican roots, from which you came.

From Viva Pictures, Brownsville Bred is a coming-of-age story of a young girl struggling to understand her father and her heritage after being raised in Brooklyn.

The film is based on the novel and stage play of the same name from the true story of Elaine del Valle.

It stars Nathalia Lares (Sunnyland) in the leading role as Elaine, a young girl growing up in the most dangerous neighborhoods of Brooklyn. The film also features Javier Munoz (Broadway’s Hamilton, In the Heights), Karina Ortiz (The Walking Dead: Dead City, Orange is the New Black), Summer Rose Castillo (Alma’s Way, The Equalizer), Susanna Guzman (Babes, Manifest), and Gabriela Amerth (Musica, Anxiety).

Here is the official synopsis:

Set in 1980’s Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY—a spunky Latina must find her own path as she comes of age to face the grim realities of the musician father she once idolized and the deteriorating neighborhood she calls home.
