What might be the monster showdown of the century has officially begun filming: Godzilla vs Kong. Two epic properties will battle on the big screen come May 22, 2020. The project has been a long time in the making. The last time these two Kaiju shared the silver screen was back in 1962 in the Toho-produced and Ishirō Honda-directed film. Times have changed. CGI will no doubt replace men in rubber suits, but it won’t be any less epic come Memorial Day 2020.
The synopsis does a respectable job painting a picture of this monster bash, as found by Godzilla-Movies.
“In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.”

Death Note’s Adam Wingard is directing, DP duties are handled by World War Z’s Ben Seresin, production design is credited to the Matrix Trilogy’s Owen Patterson and Blindspotting’s Tom Hammock. In addition, Kong: Skull Island’s Josh Schaffer will edit, Ann Foley who has costume design credits from Altered Carbon will help bring the washed out futuristic world to life, and VFX will be supervised by Watchmen’s John “DJ” DesJardin.
The creative talent behind the camera has me stoked, and the synopsis just sweetened the deal. How far off are we until a trailer again?
