Cheech Marin is in the new film Champions. A film that has the equal balance of drama, comedy and heart. Along with Woody Harrelson and Kaitlin Olson.

The Synopsis

Woody Harrelson (“True Detective”) stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

Richard Anthony Marin gained recognition in the 70’s as Cheech from the highly successful duo Cheech and Chong. He is a stand up comedian, actor, writer and activist.  Marin’s trademark has been his Chicano accent. He has simultaneously been working in films, television and voiced Disney films such as The Lion King and Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Besides the Cheech and Chong franchise, Born in East L.A. and TV series Nash Bridges are a few of Cheech’s fans favorites. This year he is making an appearance in Lopez Vs. Lopez can be heard in Prime Video animation The Legend of Vox Machina while voicing Trinket.

I was connected with Cheech Marin to talk about Champions via Zoom. Marin discussed playing the words of wisdom for Woody Harrelson’s character in the film. In addition to reasons why he wanted to be a part of this comedy drama full of heart. I of course had to ask if there could be a Cheech and Chong return.
