Christian Bale Hasn’t Seen Ben Affleck’s Batman Movies

Before the proliferation of cinematic universes, the king of the superhero movie genre was Batman. During The Dark Knight Trilogy, the character was proven to be a box office boon, with its second two installments raking in $1 billion-plus apiece. Not bad considering it’s just one character (no other character in this current generation has this box office power, other than maybe Iron Man — but that’s debatable at this point).

The man who donned the cowl in those films was Christian Bale, who signed on largely because of his trust of director Christopher Nolan. With that in mind, some have wondered whether or not Bale has bothered checking out the film starring his successor Ben Affleck, who most recently played Batman in Justice League.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bale confessed:

“I have not [seen Ben Affleck’s Batman]. Yes I’m interested [in seeing it], my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was it—I tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see. I have to confess I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I don’t know why. I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good.”

Indeed, even while he was playing Batman, he made it perfectly clear that superhero films weren’t generally his cup of tea. He’s much more of an actor’s actor than he is a fanboy of sorts, like, say Zachary Levi. As such, this isn’t too surprising to hear.

We’d be interested to hear his thoughts on Affleck’s portrayal of the character, though, and see if he agrees with someone of the creative choices made based on this interpretation.
