In a rumor quickly confirmed by James Gunn himself, cinematographer Rob Hardy joins the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow crew. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock in the title role, is in development for the new DCU. Set to release June 26, 2026 and directed by Craig Gillespie from a script by Tom King , Otto Binder and Ana Nogueira, the filming should be happening very soon.
According to @maverickmovies Rob Hardy who previously worked on Annihilation, Ex Machina and Civil War has joined the crew. One would presume as the cinematographer on the film. The news was quickly confirmed by co-head of DC Studios James Gunn in the Threads social media network. Asked by a fan if the rumor was true Gunn simply confirmed it was without offering any other details.
Supergirl will seemingly adapt the Tom King graphic novel “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” In that story, Kara Zor-El travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. She meets a young woman named Ruthye (Eve Ridley) on a quest for revenge. Ruthye wants to hunt down the man who killed her father. Kara however is on a planet with a Red Sun, rendering her powerless.

However, much as that is the story of the comic we cannot say the movie will follow the same path. King may be involved in the scripting process, but events still have to fit within a movie runtime. The basic however of Kara and Ruthye seem to remain consistent.
Supergirl should begin filming in January, so I’m sure we’ll find out a lot more about crew roles and casting very soon.
