Make sure to check out The Tax Collector this weekend. A thriller, action film that takes you through a ride of what local Los Angeles gangs may be about.
This film stars David Soto (A Better Life), actor and filmmaker Shia LaBeouf (Honey Boy), actress Cinthya Carmona (East Los High), actor, comedian and producer George Lopez and actor, rapper Jose ‘Conejo’ Martin.
No surprise to have filmmaker David Ayer as the writer and director of this production. Ayer is known to make gang and drug trade films using the City of Angels. He is known for films like Training Day (2001), End of Watch (2012) and Suicide Squad (2016).
This film starts with David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf) as the tax collectors for the crime lord, The Wizard. This duo go about with their day by the day successful rounds collecting their cuts from the local gangs for their illicit dealings. However, everything shifts direction when The Wizards’ past rival, Conejo (Jose ‘Conejo’ Martin) leaves Mexico to take over Los Angeles. David finds himself running to protect what he has left, his family.
Cinthya Carmona is a Venezuelan actress who became well known with her role as Brandie, in the Hulu series East Los High. She was also seen in the four seasons of Netflix, Greenhouse Academy and films like Skin In The Game (2019), A Dark Foe (2020) and soon in Reefa.

I had the opportunity to interview Cinthya via Zoom. She discussed the two and a half months she had to train and prepare for her not so innocent character Alexis, David (Bobby Soto) wife. A role that is directly affected by gang violence and domestic violence. She shared how she had to mentally prepare for the strong scenes she was a part of, and what she looks for when choosing rolls.
The Tax Collector available in Theaters, Drive-In Theaters and VOD as of today, August 7th.
