Netflix’s GLOW has been canceled.
Earlier we reported on the delays that all of the Warner Bros. films due to Covid-19. It seems like every day we learn about another film or series that is further affected by the restrictions of what is now day who knows what of the 15-day lockdown to stop the spread. Unfortunately, this piece is not about a delay but of a cancellation.
Via Deadline, we learned that the female wrestling dramedy GLOW, will not be coming back to Netflix for a fourth and final season. This comes after it being renewed in August of last year. The sad news is that this decision to cancel GLOW, starring Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron, is a casualty of the Covid-19 production shutdown.
When the shutdown happened, GLOW was about three weeks into filming its fourth season. It had completed one episode and was starting on the second one. Since then, Netflix has been trying to figure out a way to get the show back into production. The challenge with that is that it was entirely shot in Los Angeles, California. A place where large-scale productions have been very hard to get going again.

Plus they also faced extra challenges to get back to work. Specifically with the fact that its a show about wrestling. This makes it a high-risk series to produce safely during COVID. The cost to make GLOW, which was already expensive, faced additional COVID-related costs for its large cast of 20. In the end, the budget just got way too high for Netflix to move forward. Another factor was that the delays meant that the earliest the series would have been back on the streamer would have been 2022. Netflix didn’t have the confidence that fans would stick around that long.
“We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of GLOW due to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline. “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of GLOW with us and the world.”

Very bummed out about this as GLOW was a fantastic series. So much so that it had earned 15 Emmy nominations and three wins during its three seasons. It had even spread into the comic book world over at IDW. Who knows, maybe one day they can wrap up the final season in the pages of a comic book or even an animated series.
