A couple bits of DCU news today, we have the Batman: Caped Crusader trailer for you, plus Lex Luthor was spotted on set of Superman. Let’s start with the official release of the first trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader.
As someone the perfect age to be a huge fan of Batman: TAS, this feels like a reboot with a difference. I know several of those involved in TAS are on this, like Bruce Timm. However, I think I expected either some kind of continuation, or a different design. What this appears to be is the exact same design, and gothic feel as TAS, but brand new stories. Clearly this is the police first encounter with Batman, and yet in TAS he ends up working regularly with them.
Usually, a reboot is the same story with different design and I love that this is almost the opposite. I loved the aesthetic of Batman: TAS, so having brand new stories in that world, without any baggage from that show, is appealing.
Many of Batman’s rogue’s gallery are on show here for the first season. However, I notice some of their designs have been altered dramatically, despite other characters looking almost identical. I’m intrigued and will definitely be checking this out when it hits Prime, August 1st. My only query is why WB allowed this to be on Prime and not their own Max service? Oh well, who cares?

New set images have been snapped of Nicholas Hoult arriving on set as Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman. I assume I speak for many fans when I say we hope this Lex is an improvement on any previous movie attempts.
Well, he certainly looks more intense from what little we can see below. Those are some battle scars on Hoult’s bald cap costume.

That is most definitely Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. So far we’ve seen him around set in ‘civvies’ but never yet in costume. He’s mostly covered up here, but at least the wind gave us a good glimpse of his bald cap and face.
I have confidence Hoult was chosen wisely by Gunn for this role and he could become our best ever portrayal of the character in a movie. It remains to be seen whether he beats Clancy in aminated or Rosenbaum for TV.
