Dead Rising, the film being developed for all forms of digital distribution that’s based on the video game franchise that has sold over 6.5 million games, has landed a director. The man to helm the ambitious, digital project will be Zach Lipovsky, who rose to fame on the reality TV filmmaking competition produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett, “On The Lot.”
A visual effects veteran, Lipovsky recently completed the horror reboot Leprechaun: Origins for WWE Studios. This live-action take on Dead Rising is being written by Tim Carter, who will also serve as a producer for the project- just as he did for Machinima’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” web series.
Dead Rising, about a zombie apocalypse that not even a mandatory government vaccine could prevent, will tell a tale of survival. The 90-minute film will be available in all kinds of formats, across several platforms. From episodic form, to a full-length film, you’ll be able to stream the show on everything from Crackle, SVOD, VOD, DVD, and there’ll also be a TV version.
Leprechaun: Origins will be available on VOD services starting on August 26.
