Dean Devlin And Jonathan Glassner On Making The Ark For SYFY | WonderCon 2023

“The Ark” currently airs SYFY and the next day on Peacock. This sci-fi series takes us 100 years into the future when it’s no longer a viable option to remain on planet Earth, but must now seek a new world to inhabit to secure the survival of the human race.

The Ark focuses on the first of these missions on a spacecraft named Ark One. On its way to its target planet, it suffers a catastrophic event that forces the dormant passengers of the ship to be forced to be awakened from their pods and face the destruction and death of some of them.

Now with over a year left until they reach their destination, the remaining passengers and crew must figure out a way to survive on a damaged ship with a lack of life-sustaining supplies and a loss of leadership. Who will step up and who will fold?

To talk about “The Ark” LRM Online‘s Manny Gomez spoke with creator and co-showrunner Dean Devlin and co-showrunner Jonathan Glassner about the making of the series. During our conversation, we talked about the challenges in creating characters that start off in a heightened situation like a space emergency, and then developing their traits and personalities.

We also talked about the concepts of the technology that they developed for the series keeping in mind the idea that it was 100 years into the future. Also, with so many sci-fi adventures between them, what keeps them coming back for more? It was a great conversation that you can check out below. My apologies for a few moments with bad audio, I fixed it as best as I could.

“The Ark” stars Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read, and Ryan Adams. It airs Wednesdays at 10pm on SYFY. Streaming the next day on Peacock.
