As I am sure you are aware, Fox are releasing a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 over the holidays called Once Upon a Deadpool. This toned down version of the very adult movie is designed for one purpose and one purpose only, to get families into theaters to see Deadpool 2 that otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do so. Of course, this has been done ‘for the kids’ and not for the mountains of extra cash they hope to generate from the movie…..Right.

Anyway, the idea behind Once Upon a Deadpool revolves around Deadpool kidnapping Fred Savage and relaying the story of Deadpool 2 to him whilst cutting out some of the more filthy mouthed parts. A great idea really when all things are considered.
However was the idea that of Reynolds himself, or a fan who tweeted the idea to the actor almost a year ago? Well, check out the post on Twitter from this fan MVBramley.
Sooo… I tweeted the exact plot of the new 'Once Upon A Deadpool' PG version of #Deadpool2 at Ryan Reynolds almost a year ago and it somehow wound up in a movie without me knowing. #deadpool #ryanreynolds #xmen #movies #OnceUponADeadpool #fredsavage #marvelmovies #mcu pic.twitter.com/tTMHwh2A1a

Yep, that sounds pretty similar doesn’t it, and the proof is there that this was posted last year and therefore likely before the idea for this was pitched to Fox by Reynolds. Now, no one is saying that Reynolds deliberately copied this idea and then sought to pass it off as his own (at least no one here at LRM). For a start, I’m pretty sure Reynolds doesn’t read every tweet sent to him by fans, which would be a full time job in itself.
We also have to accept the fact that the things you post freely on social media are basically given to the world free of charge. No one can seriously expect to pitch something on Twitter and then ask for compensation when the idea is used later on. However, I am no legal expert on these matters, so if someone else can correct me, fire away. Still, it’s an interesting story that could grow depending on the response of Reynolds and Fox.
What do you think of the post and it’s relation to the final movie? Sounds off in the usual place and remember if you pitch any ideas on there they legally belong to Rian Johnson’s pet Porg.
