Back in 1989, Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone starred in a little gem titled Tango & Cash. In less than two weeks, we’ll see Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2… AND Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2… Do the math! I’ll admit, every time I write about Stallone in relation to Vol. 2, I can’t help but bring up Tango & Cash. Every time. It now appears that I am not alone in my thought process.
Our very own Nancy Tapia attended a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 junket, where Stallone was asked if he lobbied to share any on-screen time with his Tango & Cash co-star, Kurt Russell:
“As for Tango and Cash, listen, I can’t stand Kurt Russell, so if you keep him away from me the happier I will be. So, I lobbied to stay out of his scenes. If you believe that then I have a bridge to sell you in Arizona.”
So… no? Stallone obviously is still buddies with Kurt Russell, because, if you can’t tell, everything he said was in jest. But, when you’re joining a film from Marvel Studios and you’re playing a smaller role, I doubt you lobby for anything besides a larger paycheck, , even if you are the great Stallone. Like you, I haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so though it doesn’t sound like they share any screen time in this one, who knows what happens to Ego (Russell) and Stakar (Stallone) going forward?
I hope they join forces after they are framed, to clear their names… in space! Until then… I’ll go back to watching them do that on Earth in Tango & Cash.
