Actor Djimon Hounsou has been cast as an (Ethiopian) Immortal in Chad Stahelski’s Highlander Reboot starring Henry Cavill. As per THR, Hounsou, (Guardians of the Galaxy) joins Cavill (MacLeod), Russell Crowe (Ramirez), Dave Bautista (The Kurgen), Karen Gillan (Heather MacLeod) in the film.
The article also names the role played by Marisa Abela. As I suspected she is playing the modern day love interest of Connor. Though this time around she is not named Brenda it seems.
I guess when we last did a Highlander article, I said that was the last casting for the main speaking roles, IF the reboot follows a similar story to the original. The article from THR does not say Hounsou is playing the same Ethiopian Immortal from the first film. However, I’m guessing that is the case. In other words Hounsou will play a friendly (to Connor) immortal, who probably fights and gets killed by The Kurgen.

Here’s the relevant quote from THR,
‘Hounsou will play an immortal warrior from Africa.’
Are we now at the end of the casting line on this film? Well, no. If we follow the original there are still a few small roles to cast. Like the people/family from Connor’s home village that end up banishing him. We also have the modern day police and various immortals that will lose their heads.
I stress once more though, despite the casting so far matching the original, the reboot could have many differences we are currently unaware of.
Principal is due to begin this September and unless someone posts leaks, we will have to wait and see how this reboot differs.
