Does Amazon Have Its Eyes Set On A Dark Tower Series?

Recently, we’ve reported on the big money that Amazon is spending on their original programming for their Prime members. More specifically, we discussed their Lord of the Rings adaptation getting a five-season commitment and having an ultimate price tag of around $1 billion.

Of course, Amazon isn’t the only one dropping billions. Netflix is famously spending $8 billion this year alone on original content, and while I very much enjoy their content, I’ve always said that their lack of franchising their films is something that could be improved on. With Lord of the Rings under their belts, Amazon seems to be well on their way to getting one step ahead. Now, it sounds like they may have their eyes on another big property.

The folks over at io9 are noticing that a series based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower novels may be the next big property for them to tackle. Back in February, Deadline offhandedly mentioned The Dark Tower alongside other properties like Ringworld and The Wheel of Time as potential fodder for a series.

This is a show that’s been in the works for a while, and on board to showrun it is Glen Mazzara, formerly of The Walking Dead. On Twitter, he made a Dark Tower joke, which prompted head of Event Series at Amazon Sharon Tal Yguado to quote his tweet, saying, “Our writers take their job very seriously” with the hashtag “DarkTowerTV.” These tweets have since been deleted, but were captured by WheelofTime.TV.

So what do you think? Does all of this add up to The Dark Tower ending up on Amazon? You be the judge.
