I am a big fan of Jack Kirby’s New Gods from DC that he created back in 1971 that featured two opposing planets, New Genesis, ruled by Highfather and Apokolips, ruled by Darkseid. Sometime ago we had learned that Ava DuVernay had been brought in to develop and direct a film about these characters for Warner Bros. which would include Scott Free aka Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Granny Goodness and the Female Furies.
Today via TheWrap we have learned that she will have some big help in developing the screenplay for the film. Eisner Award winning comic book writer and friend of The Comic Source, Tom King will be co-writing the screenplay with DuVernay for the New Gods film. King is the current writer at DC for Batman and Heroes in Crisis. His amazing work on Mister Miracle with Mitch Gerads has won multiple Eisner Awards and in my opinion is a must read comic book series.
DuVernay confirmed this report with a post on her Twitter account. You can check it out below!

Once you take some time to read DC’s Mister Miracle by King, you will see why many DC fans are excited for a move like this. He wrote a fantastic story that featured the New Gods characters that has left comic book fans wanting more. Although most of The New Gods characters are not very predominant but we have seen Fourth World characters like the villain Steppenwolf and the Paradeamons as well as the machines called Motherboxes. I cannot wait to see what King and DuVernay put together for this film.
