Avengers: Endgame‘s Mjolnir moment was cinema history. Any Marvel fans can tell you how they felt at that moment in theaters or where they watched the movie for the first time. To this days we still get audience reactions to that moment showing up on social media and elsewhere. Somehow, when you watch that moment back, with audience reactions, it feels like the first time again. Cap proving himself worth and lifting Mjolnir for the first time to face down Thanos.
Some may argue the portals scene a few minutes later was just as powerful. For me, I love the portals scene as well, but it doesn’t quite still give me that raw emotion that Endgame‘s Mjolnir moment does. It turns out even Chris Evans gets choked up when he watches that scene with audience reactions. Evans recently spoke to Empire, and talked about his first time seeing that scene in theaters, as well as how he still gets emotional when he sees videos of audience reactions.
“The first time I saw Endgame was at the premiere. Normally I see the films I work on well in advance, and I rarely sit through premieres (too much anxiety). But being the last installment of a ten-year journey, I wanted to experience this final film the same way the audience would,” Evans recalls. “When Cap lifts Mjölnir, our theater went absolutely berserk.”

“Even though I knew the moment was coming, I still got emotional. In the following weeks, friends and family would send me clips from theaters around the world losing their collective shit at this moment,” he continued. “Seeing those reactions, and knowing that I was lucky enough to be a part of those memories for those people, made me feel a sense of pride and gratitude that I’ll never be able to properly express. In those moments I’m not an actor, or even an adult; I’m a little kid again completely captivated by the power and magic that movies can wield. I’m getting choked up.”
Endgame’s Mjolnir Moment
Honestly, Cap lifting Mjolnir still gets the hairs standing on the back of my neck even after multiple re-watches. Especially when audience reactions are a part of seeing it again like the clip above.
