Director Shawn Levy has shared the first proper image from the filming of Star Wars: Starfighter showing our two protagonists on set. The image itself is below, and this means I now have two images I can use to talk about this film, yay.

All Levy said in the caption of his Instagram post was, “Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea,” which, as you can see by the image, makes sense. Check it out.

For now we know very little about this film. Though there are some rumors which seem to line up, so far. For example it is rumored that Gosling’s character above is the uncle of Flynn Gray’s character pictured with him. The main crux of the film is Gosling trying to get Gray’s character somewhere, whilst villains attempt to stop them. Amy Adams is rumored to have a smaller role as Gray’s on screen mother, who clearly does not accompany them on the trip.

Matt Smith and Mia Goth are the rumored villains of the piece. However, we’ve also got, Aaron Pierre (Lanterns), Jamael Westman (Hedda), Daniel Ings (Lovesick) and Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners) to factor in and no rumors around them yet.

It seems like Starfighter will be a self contained story. Though, it may also have some seeds sown lightly towards this new era. An era that is set to begin with the upcoming, and still in development, Rey Sequel.

I have seen some fans happy that whatever planet this is above, it’s not a desert planet again. One could perhaps guess the characters are simple fishermen when we meet them initially. Who knows?
