Back in May of 2014 we had the re-imagination of the classic Sleeping Beauty story but with a twist, as it was going to be from the perspective of the story’s “villain” Maleficent played by Angelina Jolie. The film that was directed by Robert Stromberg went on to make over $758 million worldwide. Of course this lead to a sequel to be made by Disney titled Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. To be honest thanks to the Disney heavy film slate this year, I had completely forgotten about. Today Disney released their first official teaser trailer for the film which you can check out above!
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be picking up a few years after the events of the first film. Princess Aurora, played by Elle Fanning, and Maleficent have teamed up to protect the magical lands. But as we see in the trailer Aurora has gotten engaged and they must travel to another kingdom where things don’t go very well as it seems that the queen, played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Maleficent don’t see eye to eye, causing her to go full villain once again which also seems to put her relationship with Aurora to the test.
Along with Jolie, Fanning and Pfeiffer the cast is comprised of Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein and Robert Lindsay. The film is being directed by Joachim Ronning based of a script by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.
