As announced by James Gunn, Frank Grillo will reprise his DCU role as Rick Flag Sr in Peacemaker Season 2. Grillo will play Flag Sr first in Creature Commandos, the animated show coming to Max. Peacemaker Season 2 is filming now with creator James Gunn directing the first three episodes. The directors for remaining three episodes are as yet still unannounced.
Here is what James Gunn posted on his Instagram account.
‘Pleased to announce the great @frankgrillo1will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr – the role he’ll first play in animated form in Creature Commandos – throughout Season 2 of #Peacemaker. Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of…’

Of course, that unfinished business makes sense, initially. Then you remember that The Suicide Squad is no longer canon, nor is Peacemaker Season 1. James Gunn himself said this, so how it will actually work? We’ll need to wait and see. Would Rick Flag Sr be angry at Christopher for killing his son in an alternate Universe? You see, it feels obvious until you actually think about it in a bit more detail.
I’d say my interest in Peacemaker Season 2 is piqued just by finding out how Gunn is going to do it. However, truthfully I loved Peacemaker Season 1, so I’d have been all over this anyway. However, it’s still weird having Season 2 of a show started in one universe now set in another.
We have yet to see Grillo play Flag Sr in Creature Commandos. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if fans are more excited for Grillo after Creature Commandos hits?
