Friends will no longer be there for you…unless you pony up the extra cash for WarnerMedia’s impending streaming service. Netflix has always been gearing up for a time when networks would be reclaiming their shows, and it looks like that time is fast approaching. We’ve heard about beloved series like The Office being taken away from the streaming giant in the near future, but what about the other big sitcom?
Yup, Friends is saying buh-bye all too soon — at the end of 2019, to be more specific. According to WarnerMedia, Friends will be saying adios to Netflix and hello to HBO Max. Along with Friends, HBO Max will be home to CW content, which has largely been on Netflix up until this point. HBO Max will launch in spring 2020.

“HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is ‘Friends,’” said Robert Greenblatt, chairman, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer. “Under the leadership of two of the strongest creative visionaries — Casey Bloys (HBO) and Kevin Reilly (original content and acquisitions) — and two of the most experienced digital experts — Tony Goncalves and Andy Forssell — I have no doubt they and their dedicated teams will deliver the world’s best storytelling to audiences of all ages wherever and whenever they want it.”
From CW to HBO…basically assume that anything that falls under WarnerMedia’s extensive banner will be hanging out in HBO Max when the time comes. And overnight, it looks like Disney has a legit competitor. Who would’ve thought?
