Front Runners To Play Maxima In Man Of Tomorrow Named – Then Debunked – Then Named

Deadline named the front runners for the Maxima role in Man of Tomorrow, then James Gunn debunked it, then THR reported new names.

Well this is a story. Deadline named the front runners for the Maxima role in Man of Tomorrow, then James Gunn debunked it, then THR reported new names. Let’s start at the start which was a report from Deadline

The trade reported that Marisa Abela (Back to Black), Adria Arjona (Andor), and Ella Purnell (Fallout) are all set to begin testing this week, for the Maxima role.

However, DC Studios co-head James Gunn (also the film’s writer/director) took to Threads to debunk the claims strongly.

‘This is not against Nexus – they’re sharing what Deadline reported – but Deadline’s reporting is shoddy & incorrect. I’ve always thought Deadline was pretty thorough in their journalism but that’s not the case here so I’m frankly disappointed. If someone would have run these names by us we would have said it’s bullshit. I’ve been friends with Adria a long time since I cast her in The Belko Experiment. I’m a fan of both Marisa and Ella but I’ve never met either of them. Crazy.’

Deadline then updated their article to say the following,

“Deadline went through its normal editorial process in the newsgathering for this story. After a review in light of new information regarding the actors involved, the story is currently being updated.”

The trade has now removed Abela and Purnell’s names, the update now says,

“Adria Arjona was among those beginning to test last week, multiple sources tell Deadline.”

However, THR has now released a new article with some updated names. This time around, DC Studios has declined to comment, possibly indicating they’ve got it right.

The trade backs that Arjona has already tested. However, they name her as one of four finalists for the role, seen as a major one for the film. The other three are Eva De Dominici (The Cleaning Lady), Sydney Chandler (Alien: Earth), and Grace Van Patten (The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox).

See folks, sometimes even trades get it wrong. should we downgrade Deadline to rumors from now on, or accept sometimes this game is a tricky one? (Not a serious question by the way. THR got something big wrong last year, it happens.)

Man of Tomorrow arrives in theatres on July 9, 2027. Share any thoughts you have below.
