Game Of Thrones Actor Didn’t Think He’d Make It To The Final Season

When Game of Thrones first began the actors hired for the various roles could have a fair idea about whether they’d be back in future seasons. But of course, after Season 4 started going in different directions from the books and beyond them, it became far harder to know anyone’s fate. After all, it’s Game of Thrones, very few roles were safe from the dreaded death scene.

One actor who most fans are glad made it the finale is Nikolaj Coster-Wakldau who plays villain turning good guy Jaime Lannister. Jaime ended Season 7 by leaving his sister Cersei and heading North towards his younger brother Tyrion and the battle against the dead.

Talking with HuffingtonPost the actor was asked how it felt to be in the final season of the biggest show in the world (probably).

“I know! It was a surprise. God, every time we got a new script I thought, ‘OK, this is probably going to be the one.’ But no. The Lannister kids made it to the end.”

In my opinion, I think the character arc for Jaime might be one of my very favorites in anything. I love the way fans were so worried he was going to be dragon food in Season 7 after he started off the show as probably the character most people wanted to see dead.

Of course, Coster-Waldau was asked about the ending of the show which he knows, but as you’d expect he’s keeping schtum. When asked if he would be meeting up with Brienne of Tarth again the actor said.

“Ohhh, well, who knows? [Laughs] I don’t, well, I know how it ends but … no, I can’t comment on that.”

If he did, we probably wouldn’t share it, after following the show for so long, who would really want the finale spoiled with probably less than a year to go. Speculation and fan theories are a part of the fun for me on Game of Thrones.

Do you think Jaime was always destined to make it to the end, or did you think he would meet the gods far earlier? Sound off about anything Thrones related in the usual place below.
