This morning, Paramount released what they’re coining as the “Official Trailer†for Ghost in the Shell, the manga adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. This is a bit surprising, considering between all the clips, the first “teaser,†and the international teaser, and the Super Bowl spot, it seems like we’ve already had more than enough to be passed this whole first “official trailer†deal, but there you have it.
Given that this is a film that may very be poised to raise the general public’s familiarity with other manga properties, we figured we’d create a reaction video to this trailer. I may not be the most familiar with Ghost in the Shell in all its incarnations (manga, movie, its sequel, series, second series, etc.), but I do have a more than passing familiarity with the franchise, as well as its impact on fanboys and fangirls worldwide.
So does this trailer do anything for me? Does this flick have the potential to rise above all other adaptations we’ve seen in recent years? Or will this be the next Dragonball Evolution? Check out my reaction at the top!
Below is the official synopsis for Ghost in the Shell:
“The Major (Scarlett Johansson) is a special ops, one-of-a-kind, human-cyborg hybrid who leads an elite task force known as Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, she faces an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotics’ advancements in cyber technology.â€
Ghost in the Shell hits theaters on March 31, 2017!
