Hulu is set to take viewers into the gritty, high-stakes world of illegal boxing in 1880s Victorian London with its upcoming original series, A Thousand Blows. Created by Steven Knight, the mastermind behind Peaky Blinders, this six-episode drama is set to premiere on Friday, February 21, 2025, on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
The series explores the perilous lives of Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe, two best friends who flee Jamaica only to find themselves entangled in London’s underground bare-knuckle boxing scene. Amid the chaos of the East End’s criminal underworld, Hezekiah’s meteoric rise as a pugilist attracts the attention of Mary Carr, the notorious Queen of the Forty Elephants, who sees an opportunity to exploit his talent for her own gain.
As Hezekiah’s fame grows, he becomes a target of Sugar Goodson, a self-declared emperor of the East End boxing world. Goodson views Hezekiah’s ambition to break into the West End as a threat to his empire, setting the stage for a battle of old versus new in the evolving sport and society.
Inspired by real-life stories and lesser-known historical figures, A Thousand Blows promises a thrilling combination of action, drama, and history.
The series features a cast led by Malachi Kirby (Small Axe), Erin Doherty (The Crown), and Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire, The Irishman), who also serves as an executive producer alongside Hannah Walters.
