The documentary series Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini used interviews, footage, evidence, and dioramas to retrace the investigation that united the community and turned the victim into a villain.

Keith and Sherri Papini’s seemingly idyllic family life is shattered when Sherri vanishes from their northern California neighborhood, triggering a frenzied search that becomes news around the world. With unprecedented access to Sherri’s friends and family—as well as the investigators who struggled for six years to solve the mystery of her disappearance—this limited documentary series intimately explores the jaw-dropping revelations of a relationship that wasn’t what it seemed.

LRM  Online’s Gig Patta chatted with filmmaker Michael Beach Nichols and executive producer Allison Berkley about the limited documentary series, its mystery, and the gathering of research and interviews.

Michael Beach Nichols is a documentary filmmaker who received acclaim and recognition for his topics and storytelling. In 2019, his notable Wrinkles the Clown created a conversation in both fear and humor about a mysterious clown showing up in odd places. He received an Emmy nomination for 2015’s Welcome to Leith, which also premiered at Sundance and SXSW. His debut feature was with Flex Is Kings in 2013, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Allison Berkley started working on the CBS Television syndicated talk show Rachael Ray, producing hundreds of episodes that earned many Emmy nominations. She made many notable series for television and streaming, including Eli Roth’s History of Horror for AMC, Earth to Ned for Disney+, Murder in the Thirst for BET, The Object of Murder for ID, and Warren Jeffs: Prophet of Evil for A&E.

Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini limited documentary series makes its premiere on July on June 20.
