Even the film recruited the unlikeliest underdog, with an unknown actor at the time, Sylvester Stallone, to portray this underdog.
I Play Rocky is one of the anticipated true stories adapted for the screen on how Sylvester Stallone managed to land the role of Rocky Balboa, catapulted him into stardom, and established Rocky as one of the most beloved boxing franchises.
It will also showcase Anthony Ippolito (Pixels, Purple Hearts) in this lead role as Sylvester Stallone. And in the corner, the film has a great cast with Matt Dillon (There’s Something About Mary), AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer), P.J. Byrne (The Wolf of Wall Street), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Tracy Letts (Lady Bird), Jay Duplass (Transparent), Stephan James (Race), and Kiki Seto (The Studio). Peter Farrelly directed the film from the screenplay written by Peter Gamble.

Audiences do have a hunger for these true-story films in theaters, particularly with Michael’s success earlier this year. Given this first trailer, this film will be an emotional and uplifting movie that could put us back in the nostalgia of Rocky.
I Play Rocky will be in select theaters on November 6 and then expand wide in later weeks.
