The Incomer is a tale about a government worker tasked with evicting two squatters who have lived on an uninhabited island for nearly three decades.

Instead, it becomes a heartwarming story of bonding, friendship, and loneliness.

Donhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, About Time) leads the film as a government employee who must convince the brother and sister to leave the island before the rest of the government gets involved.

The rest of the cast includes Gayle Rankin (The Greatest Showman, GLOW), Grant O’Rourke (Outlander, In Plain Sight), Emun Elliott (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Prometheus), Michelle Gomez (Green Wing, Doctor Who), and John Hannah (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Mummy).

Here is the official synopsis:

The Sundance Award-winning comedy, The Incomer, is a modern folk fairy tale set on a remote Scottish island, where two siblings survive by hunting seabirds, retelling the stories of their ancestors, and defending the isle from dreaded Incomers. Their world is upended with the arrival of an awkward council worker who has come to uproot them from their homeland on behalf of the government.

This film got tremendous buzz out of the Sundance Film Festival by winning the Sundance Film Festival 2026 Next Innovator Award. It currently sits at 92% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with 37 reviews. No doubt this is a touching indie film to watch.

The film will be in theaters on Friday, September 25.
