One of the two new DC bosses, James Gunn confirms a connected DCU across movies, TV, animation and even video games is coming. Both James Gunn and his co-head of DC Peter Safran are currently mapping out what the future of the DCU will be. Gunn has been pretty vocal about any leaks anyone are hearing being garbage. That’s because right now only Gunn and Safran know what they’re planning. However the filmmaker, now executive, says fans should get a glimpse at what comes next before SDCC next year.
As Gunn also confirmed in the social media post below, the new DCU will be a joined up approach across many mediums.
Yes, most definitely, the DCU will be connected across film and TV (and animation). https://t.co/IIiqkMJkuW

Gunn then went on to clarify that this also means video games that are connected to the wider DCU. That’s not something even Marvel has managed so far.
Yes.

So far DC based games have been traditionally far better received and more successful than games based on Marvel characters. However those DC games have all been their own thing, from the Arkham Universe and beyond. Connecting great ideas for video games that fall canonically into the wider DCU sounds kinda fun, as long as the same aesthetics are used.

As for the rest, it remains to be seen how this will all connect? Remember we currently have three different versions of Batman in the DCU. Additionally, only two of those are in anyway connected to anyone else. Ergo, what will Gunn and Safran decide to do about the fact the Matt Reeves Batman Universe currently isn’t compatible with the rest of the DCU? If The Batman was terrible, it would be an easy decision to make. However The Batman was a damn good movie that I think most fans want to see a sequel for. Plus we have several TV series in the works for this separate universe also. Recently Ben Affleck announced he was only working exclusively with his and Matt Damon’s production company. It begs the question, how will all this be worked out?
For now it seems only Gunn and Safran are in the know, and perhaps their boss David Zaslav? For the rest of us, we will just have to wait until Safran and Gunn decide to spill the beans. However once negotiations with actors and other talent do begin, that’s when we might hear some credible leaks.
What do you think as James Gunn confirms a connected DCU across movies, TV, animation and even video games is coming? Is this welcome, too late, or not what you want at all? As always, leave your thoughts below.
