For many years, animator Joe Mateo worked on several projects for years until he found the perfect story for his first animated short film Blush. And the touching story hits close to home despite being out of this world.
The short film is part of the Apple Original Films in connection with Skydance Animation. It is the first short film for Apple Original Films that premiered globally on Apple TV+.
Here’s the synopsis:
Blush follows the journey of a stranded horticulturist and astronaut’s chances for survival after he crashes lands on a desolate dwarf planet. When an ethereal visitor arrives, the once-lone traveler discovers the joy of building a new life and realizes the universe delivered astonishing salvation.

Joe Mateo’s first role in animation was in 1995’s Pocahontas for Walt Disney Animation. Since then, he worked as an in-betweener, an artist responsible for the continuity of movement, on films such as Mulan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Treasure Planet. Also, he co-wrote Meet the Robinsons and voiced T-Rex, he served as a story artist for Bolt, Tangled, Zootopia, and Wreck-It Ralph. He became the head of story for Big Hero 6, which earned an Emmy Award for his artistry.
