The latest Marvel Barside Buzz says John David Washington in the running for Kang, plus a possible Iron Fist return to the MCU. The rumors come from Daniel RPK on his Patreon service and RPK currently has a good hit rate with Marvel. Previously we had heard one actor in the running to replace Kang was Coleman Domingo. That information also began with RPK. However, he now says he’s heard another name, John David Washington.

I’m guessing the average LRM Online reader needs no introduction to Washington, and he’s a good actor. Not that sure I feel he’s right for Kang, however that depends on how Marvel do this. If one rumors we’ve heard is true Kang may not show back up now till Secret Wars as The Beyonder. Then again I’m not sure even Marvel has made the decision of exactly how they deal with Kang since Majors was fired.

I guess we will have to wait and see who gets the role? We have been warned by those in the know to not expect any sudden announcements on this one.

The second interesting rumor from RPK is in reference to Iron Fist. With all the recent changes regarding Born Again and almost canonisation of the Netflix Defenders shows, the return of Iron Fist is possible. What RPK has heard is that an Iron Fist project is in development after all. However, from what he’s heard the lead will be female, not Danny Rand/Finn Jones. To be fair, if they hired Jessica Henwick back as Coleen Wing then it would fit the canon ending of Iron Fist. RPK says multiple formats are being considered for this show though including animation.

RPK also says just because Jones isn’t the lead does not mean he could not appear.

Iron Fist was pretty bad if I’m honest. Season 2 was slightly more watchable. However it is the kind of lower budget and mature show Disney + seems set to cultivate. Just because Netflix didn’t manage to get Iron Fist right doesn’t mean Marvel won’t.

I’d be quite happy for Marvel to rebuild and reimagine the street level universe on Disney+. What about you?
