According to the latest Barside Buzz, Jonathan Tropper is to write Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie. We’ve known for some time that Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is developing a Star Wars movie and it’s a high priority for him. We know it’s in early development, which means Lucasfilm hasn’t decided to make it yet. Though Levy said he’s determined to get that greenlight eventually.
Well, according to Jeff Sneider in his The Insneider newsletter, Jonathan Tropper will write the script. Tropper also wrote for Levy on The Adam Project. It remains to be seen if this is a script based on an outline by Levy, or he’s giving Tropper a blank page. However, one thing Sneider has said previously is that we know the era. Sneider has claimed this is being pitched as a follow up to the Rey Sequel currently in active development. Though the movie still is waiting for a completed script. Sneider says this will be a follow up and could even feature Rey (Daisy Ridley).
At this stage, it’s far too early for any other kind of details to leak. Additionally we also have to be aware that this film might never be greenlit. Or, it could take years for Levy to go through various writers until he finds a script he and Lucasfilm are happy with. I really don’t see this one advancing very rapidly at all.

It also makes sense to me that Lucasfilm/Disney waits for a script they like. Too many movies or shows have been announced without approved scripts. To be fair to Disney/LFL, they never announced this movie. The report leaked and Levy admitted it was true. I would imagine the studio wants to get the first Rey Sequel out the door an gauge reactions before committing to more.
For now, it seems we still have The Mandalorian and Grogu coming next, then it will be the Rey Sequel, and then the Dave Filoni MandoVerse movie. Next will likely be James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie, though again, we don’t have a script yet for that. After that, we still have Taika Waititi reportedly still developing a movie, as is Levy.
The only ones I’m 100% sure will end up getting made are the first three I mentioned above. I wouldn’t bet past those looking at the record Lucasfilm has.
What do you think of this rumor that Jonathan Tropper will write Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie? As always, leave any thoughts below.
