Kraven and Mysterio were in Spider-Man 4 says Sam Raimi in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. This kinda goes against some of the old concept art we have seen which showed the villain being Vulture. However perhaps when it comes to Kraven at least, he was supposed to be in the movie in addition to Vulture? As for Mysterio, that was simply a small joke cameo from Bruce Campbell rather than the villain being the main threat to Peter.
Of course Spider-Man 4 never got made, though as you can see below Raimi is still interested in making it. Check out the related section below for that one. However here is what Raimi said about Spider-Man 4 in the interview.
“I miss the really great cameo we had designed for Bruce Campbell. That was one of the possibilities. We had other things in mind, too, but that was one of them. And I missed Kraven the Hunter.”
“We were going to work that character into the next Spider-Man,” Raimi revealed. “I always wanted to see Kraven fight Spider-Man on the big screen. I thought that would be really unique. He’s the ultimate hunter, and Spider-Man is like the most agile trickster of the skies. And I wanted to see Peter continue forward as a human being.”

‘Work the character in’ could be more like a third unexpected antagonist who ends up turning good? I’m just guessing here, after all I can’t read Raimi’s thoughts. However it is interesting to hear these details and wonder what could have been? I was never a massive fans of the Raimi Spidey movies. I know, that’s unusual, but I gotta call it like I see it. I enjoyed Spider-Man 2 quite a bit. However I really didn’t care at all for the first movie, nor the third in that series.
I would still be up for Sony giving Raimi a crack at Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire though. I mean why not, it’ll make guaranteed box office profits and there is still a huge fan base out there, I’m just not one of them. Still, given how Spidey is my second favorite comic character and my son agrees with me, we’d be there to see it all the same.
What do you think of Raimi’s comments that Kraven and Mysterio were in Spider-Man 4? Would you like to see Raimi given a chance to make that movie? Thoughts below as always.
