Yesterday, we reported that several studios, including Legendary, Universal, Sony, and Paramount, were in the middle of a bidding war for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest projectwith director Rawson Marshall Thurber. The project was described as a DIE HARD in China, and was reportedly getting several seven-figure offers.
According to THR, Legendary has won that bidding war, paying “at least $3 million for the script alone.” The film is entitled SKYSCRAPER, and in addition to DIE HARD, the project has also been compared to 1974’s THE TOWERING INFERNO. As far as what the actual logline for the film is…that remains a secret, but as the project nears production, we’ll undoubtedly hear more.
SKYSCRAPER is set to be written and directed by CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE’s Rawson Marshall Thurber, and produced by Beau Flynn. The film has Johnson attached to star, and as such, this will the umpteenth time he and Flynn have worked together (they’ve both worked on such films as JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, SAN ANDREAS, and the upcoming BAYWATCH).
The Rock also posted an update on his Instagram celebrating the acquisition of the project.
SKYSCRAPER continues Dwayne Johnson’s streak of working on more projects than any of us can count. Needless to say, the man is a busy dude, and a little under a week ago, the actor again shared another couple photos of a makeshift office of his, proving once again to be quite the multi-tasker. If nothing else, no one can deny Johnson’s work ethic. The dude never sleeps!
