Man of Steel 2 Rumor – Will Black Adam Be The Big Bad?

The DC Extended Universe has been in a near constant state of flux. While Marvel Studios has also made adjustments to previously announced Phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC’s initial release calendar has mostly fallen apart due to delays and the inability to secure directors and writers for projects such as The Flash. Their slate of projects seems to change every week, with Batgirl being announced out-of-the-blue two weeks ago and the recent rumor that WB is looking at releasing four Bat Family films in 2019. As new projects continue to be announced, we have yet to hear substantial updates on previously confirmed projects like Shazam and Dark Universe

A new rumor suggests that, as some projects fail to materialize, other movies that are priorities may be picking up some pieces from what may now be discarded titles. One such rumor has found its way to Reddit, posted by a user who starts with, “No. I will not tell you how I know any of this in order to not jeopardize my position.” So take what follows with a big ‘ole grain of salt.

Man-of-war on Reddit claims to have a few scoops on Man of Steel 2, including who the main villain will be; a character who has been cast already, but may have no film to call home:

“Black Adam will be the main villain in Man of Steel 2. The idea was tossed around of possibly making an appearance in the sequel, even if it was only brief. This later evolved into Adam becoming the villain due to the fact WB did not feel confident in the early drafts of the Shazam script and felt as if Dwayne Johnson deserved a bigger project (may be linked to how much they’re paying him).”

Man-of-war also claims Shazam is “practically off the table,” which may explain that, though David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) was announced as the director as recently as February, otherwise the most we’ve heard about the film since inception is that Black Adam, the villain of the film that Dwayne Johnson was cast to play, would be getting his own solo movie as well. This seemed illogical at the time, given Shazam had no release date and other bigger titles were floundering. If this rumor proves to be true, keeping superstar Johnson on board the DCEU train is a smart move, and Man of Steel 2 may actually be the most practical way to do that.

Man-of-war goes on to state that though Matthew Vaughn is still talking to Warner Bros. about directing Man of Steel 2, the studio is also looking at other directors, “which may be an attempt to increase pressure on Vaughn’s agent.”

Do you buy any of this? I always question the motives of anyone with clearance high enough to actually leak these details (and even their assistants). If you want to believe, would you like to see Black Adam in the sequel to Man of Steel, or is it a tragedy if Shazam was canceled? Let us know in the comments below!
